he F-14 Tomcat is the jet that was featured in Top Gun and flown by the characters in the movie. It is a carrier-capable supersonic jet with twin engines and twin tails. It has variable-sweep wings as shown in the movie for different types of flight. It was first utilized by the U.S Navy in the 1970's, and was retired in 2006, and was the Navy's primary maritime air superiority fighter, fleet defense interceptor, and tactical aerial reconnaissance platform.
